The Sony Xperia One: Long on Features

The Sony Xperia One delivers the best Android device Sony can bring to the table. It runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor. This is the latest processor on the market. It’s an octa-core with 6GB of RAM which allows plenty of power to deliver great performance no matter what you want to accomplish with this device. Performance matters if you want a smooth experience watching 4K video, playing games, or taking photos or videos on the go.

The Sony Xperia One has a 6.5″ 4K HDR OLED touch screen with a 3840 x 1644 resolution. Those are excellent specs that bring a beautiful display to the face of this large phone. The screen is long with a 21:9 extended display. This allows for multitasking and immersive viewing on the go. With so many video options out there, you can really take enjoy movies and shows on this long panoramic display. The screen is Gorilla Glass 6 so it is great at resisting scratches and shock from accidental drops.

The triple camera setup on the back works great for video with that 21:9 display. 4K HDR movie recording will be fun to watch given this wide diplay. You can also get in a little closer with the 2x optical zoom and suffer less noise in shots and video at the same time. The front facing camera is an 8.0MP single camera setup. Motion Eye lets you capture slow-motion videos at up to 960 frames per second for some really cool action videos.

Powerful digital image processing produces vivid colors and ensures high contrast with the BIONZ X image processing engine. Sony also delivers its SteadyShot image stabilization in this device. That should help you capture clear crisp photos and reduce motion blur.

This device comes with 128GB of internal memory ready to store contacts, music, apps, and more. You can expand storage by adding an external microSD card, 512GB max capacity. The phone also comes with a fingerprint sensor for security. It’s IP 68 certified which means that it is water resistant for 30 minutes at almost 5 feet of depth.

Sony has always had a great reputation when it comes to sound quality and this device should be no different. Hear music as the artist intended with high-resolution audio. DSEE HX improves the quality of low-resolution music files. Its smart amplifier delivers a loud, rich sound.

The Sony Xperia One is running Android 9.0 which is slightly behind the lastest version of the Android OS. The phone should receive an update shortly, but only time will tell. To be clear the OS is pretty solid and robust, but the dark modes available in more apps on Android 10 will be missing when you get the phone going out of the box and that is slightly disappointing.

The Xperia One is compatible with all GSM carriers including AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. It also works with GSM SIM kits for wireless providers such as Cricket Wireless, Tracfone, Net10, H20, AT&T Prepaid, and Simple Mobile. The cell phone will not work with Sprint, Boost Mobile, Virgin Mobile, or any other CDMA network.

Best Buy is running a deal that gets you their first in class noise-cancelling headphones and the phone at a $200 discount.
